HANDMADE
The Dark Multi is a blend of dark reds, purples and browns, the bricks from the hotter areas of the kiln. It is often used for high-end new builds and conservation work on late Victorian to pre-Second World War buildings when kilns tended to be coal fired.
Colours are determined by the temperature the brick reaches during firing, which varies considerably depending on the location of the brick within the kiln. The bricks that are set at the edge of the kiln where temperatures reach around 900°C will be orange, at the centre the temperature reaches up to 1200°C and results in a brown brick, the middle ranging colours come between these two limits.
In order to ensure consistent and even colour, all of our bricks are blended by hand after being removed from the kiln. This brings greater consistency to our standard ranges and also enables extremely accurate matching to existing brickwork.
